Snack My Bitch Up Exclusive: Giving the Fish Finger

It's been a busy week. Too much work and not enough stunt cooking.

On Friday night at the pub, I was moaning about the lack of stunt cooking this week.

"I'll do it," says Dan Ilic. "I've got the house to myself this weekend, I'll do a guest post."

And so... here it is. (not sure if you should try this one at home tho...)

Giving The Fish Finger

I think when you're going to make a dish you should always have a salient point, and if your dish is seafood you should also have a saline point too. So my salty dish of goodness also packs a sour attitude, however like an angry adolescent, this dish is just misunderstood. Slice through the meticulously processed fingers of seafood caked in breadcrumbs and you'll be treated to a bed of warm blueberries, blue from the depths of the ocean, but also blue from the angst in the soul. While the blue berries look unsettling they compliment the fish finger, salt and sweet, then to top it off the letters L O V E are tatooed in chocolate sauce just above "the knuckles", normal tattoos are permanent, however I think you'll find that this tattoo will be the least permanent feature the dish as the chocolate will melt withing seconds of hitting the steaming fish fingers. The whole dish is surrounded  a ring of blue smarties which symbolise the barrier of politeness that the viewer has towards this unorthodox dish.

Bon Appetit.

1 x box of Coles blue berries
1 x family pack of smarties
1 x box of 15 Coles Fish Fingers
1 x bottle of Coles chocolate ice cream topping
1 x cup of love

And check out the finished product!!!

A week of Stunt Cooking...

The thing about stunt cooking is that it is a highly competitive buisness.... I make a chocolate pear tart and someone else says "I can do better".

And before you know it, there are dessert platters and anatomically accutate female genital cupcakes. Yes. You read correctly. Vagina cupcakes.

So... here's the week that was:

Monday. Some friends were coming over for afternoon tea...so I made this. Chocolate and pear tart. Yummo.

Then my sister made this: white chocolate, orange and cardamon panna cotta, hazelnut and dark chocolate brownies and hot chocolate fondant with almond brittle.

Then Lucy Carter made vagina cupcakes. I have no explanation for that one...

Other notable mentions of the week go to Rebecca Archer's mate who made these:

And Johnny Luu for sending me this (yes, the tv IS a cake too). But if it's made by a professional, its not REAL stuntcooking!

Til next time. xx

Camera Cake!!

Apologies for the lack of blogging... But I do hope this post makes up for it. Like all the best stuntcooking efforts, this began as one of Lucy Carter's crazy ideas.

"Let's make a camera cake" said Lucy.... And I started googling. We toyed with the idea of a 2d camera... but all the best movies are 3d. Ditto, all the best cakes.

The cake was for Elize who is heading to NYC to do a photography course. Elize is gluten-intolerant... So Luce got to work making a stash of gluten-free chocolate cakes.

Then we began sculpting:

And more sculpting, sticking all the bits together with chocolate icing:

Then we dyed a bucket of icing grey. And amazingly... we got it on the cake! Neither Lucy or I can explain how we managed to do it so perfectly.

But grey icing IS messy!!

And then we used black marzipan to make buttons and toffee for the lens...

And the other bits of glass.

Almost done!

And finally, we were done! The white writing is white chocolate icing, though it doesn't go hard, so add it just before unveiling the cake.

Here's Elize with the final product... and her actual camera. Which one is which?? I can't tell.

Til next time, Happy Stunt Cooking.

Julia Thomas: Stunt Cooking Scout

Ms Thomas is an amazing stunt cook, but she is also great at scouting around for great stunt-cooking finds (thus making this whole blog thing much easier).

Here are some of her recent finds:

Stunt Gingers made for a graduation a few weeks ago. Apparently all the outfits were made so that they looked like specific people. Amazing.

Stunt Grandma. An amazing cake made by Julia's grandma. (The one on the left is the cake, the one on the right is made out of wood... and was brought out initially as the cake as a joke. It proved difficult to cut)

And one more stunt cake, courtesy of Robyn Buchanan. Yes that IS a jelly swimming pool in the middle of the cake.

Junior Stunt Cooking!

My ten year old cousin, Hannah, is the original stunt cooker. Last year, her pumpkin scones won second-prize at the Easter Show (in the adult division). Thank goodness they don't put ages on the name plaques..I don't imagine the poor C.W.A grandma who came third would appreciate finding out that she'd beaten by a nine year old.

This year Hannah entered cupcakes in the Easter Show, taking out Highly Commended in the kids competition. (her cupcakes are the white ones with the amazing handmade edible flowers)

Guest Blog: Sarah, stuntcooking extraordinaire!!

So, Sarah Howells has to be one of the few people who posts more baking photos on facebook than me.

And with amazing endeavours like these, why would you?

These Australia Day Lamingtons have be my faves. Sarah recommends this lamingtons recipe. To make the Aboriginal Flag: cover the lamingtons with chocolate like normal, then divide the coconut into three bowls. Put a bit of food dye in each bowl and mix really well. To make the shape, put a bottle top on the lamington, sprinkle the top and bottom colours... and then take off the bottle top and add the yellow for the sun. Amazing.

And here are a few of Sarah's other baking triumphs. (I love the ginger-ninjas)

Let them eat (novelty) cake!

I had a busy weekend and didn't partake in any stunt cooking. (Though I did make it to The Dip at GoodGod Small Club and the molasses cookies with salted caramel ice-cream were AMAZING).

Thankfully friends and family (and miscellaneous others) have been busy stunt cooking.

But before we get to the cakes, first an ode to the greatest book of all time and no doubt a book that inspired many of these cakes.

First cake of the block:

Nathan's 1st Birthday Cake by Vivien

Next stop: amazing acid trip coloured cake (courtesy of Claire Frost's facebook.. not sure who the masterchef is tho)

DINOSAUR CAKE -- bu Jules Thomas, Linly Goh... and some others.

And thanks also to Jules Thomas for pointing me to this cake by the Red Riders.

Now I am all out of amazing cakes... so get cooking kids.
